Do More Than Christmas Carol

by Kristina Garza, Campus Outreach Director

We’ve taken down our trees, put away our stockings, and A ProLife Christmas Carol events are over... The brightness of Christmas may seem to be fading, but the joy of the incarnation and the hope of the Christmas message certainly are not.  Each time I carol in front of an abortion mill, this verse from We Three Kings catches my attention:

Myrrh is mine: it's bitter perfume,

Breaths a life of gathering gloom.

Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding dying,

Sealed in the stone-cold tomb.

Singing that verse in front of a cold abortion mill, where death is peddled inside, makes it hauntingly real.  It fills me with gloom for our generation who is sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, and dying from the lies they’ve been fed by the Culture of Death.  Bitterly I remember of those babies whose stone-cold tomb is a garbage disposal or biohazard bin.  It fills me with sorrow for all of our peers who do not know the hope and joy of our King who came to us as a vulnerable baby.  It has made me realize that we go to campuses not just to show the truth of abortion, but to bring hope to our generation.

Truth: Christmas caroling in front of abortion mills fills me with dread.  Even though we are surrounded by pro-life friends and families, singing beautiful songs about our Lord's birth, and are probably looking forward to warm coffee or hot chocolate after, you still have to watch women walk into a dingy office, where they will have their babies murdered.  There is not enough chocolate in the world to take that feeling of disgust and horror away.

A ProLife Christmas Carol reminds me why we spend about 18 hours a week talking with students about abortion on college and high school campuses, where the possibility is greater of catching them before they are pregnant, or before they have made the decision to abort.  I know that Campus Outreach has changed many mothers’ AND fathers' minds about abortion.  We've even had people thank us because an image of an abortion victim or a conversation with someone like us changed their mother's mind about choosing to abort THEM.

Every A ProLife Christmas Carol event leaves me with resolve to go back to campuses, where we can end abortion by making it unthinkable.  It reminds me that there is always more to do after Christmas.  I look forward to Spring, when the team returns so that we can reach students before they make abortion appointments.  And I thank the faithful, humble, servants who faithfully stand daily and weekly as sidewalk counselors in front of those hell holes where babies are murdered, weathering the hate, disgust, and despair, and saving lives and souls.

Has Christmas filled you with the resolve to do more than Christmas Carol?  Our generation is sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, and dying.  Help them by sharing the truth of the incarnation by joining Survivors Campus Outreach.  Email me at  Kristina@Survivors.LA for more information or apply now for the Spring semester.
